A short checklist.
A DTM product is one part of a metal-coating plan. Preparation and compatibility determine whether that plan is defensible.
Identify the metal
Steel, galvanized metal, aluminum, fabricated parts, doors, railings, and equipment may require different preparation or primer decisions.
Remove contamination
Oil, grease, salts, dust, loose coating, rust, and fabrication residue can interfere with adhesion.
Grade the corrosion
Light oxidation, active rust, pitting, failed layers, and bare edges should be separated in the scope.
Confirm primer needs
Direct-to-metal does not mean every substrate or condition can skip primer. Follow the selected system and manufacturer requirements.
Plan application
Brush, roll, and spray decisions depend on geometry, masking, overspray control, access, ventilation, and the finish standard.
Match the service exposure
Interior use, exterior weather, cleaners, abrasion, moisture, and operating conditions belong in the coating review.
